About Marques
Marques Cain was born on September 13, 1993. In 1999, his mother, Andrea Cain, was stricken with heart failure. She was originally diagnosed with a viral heart infection. After waiting over three months for a heart, Andrea underwent a successful heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic.

In 2005, Marques began to exhibit the very same symptoms as his mother. It was then that doctors discovered that the culprit was not a virus, but rather a rare and potentially fatal condition--Danon's Disease. Like his mother had before him, Marques had a dangerously enlarged heart, a condition medically known as Severe Dialated

Marques received a new heart on December 12, 2005. He is now home and in good spirits.  Marques and his family are emerging victorious from his traumatic ordeal, just as Andrea did after the successful surgery that enabled her to regain her active lifestyle as a nurse and mother of three children--Marques and his two older sisters. Your support is still needed, however.   more

Seeking Organ Transplant Stories
from People of Color

Forest Hill Publishing will launch a new book relaying the true stories of transplant recipients and donors of color. People of color represent a disproportionately high number of people who need organ transplants--and die because the didn't receive them--and a disproportionately low number of people who serve as organ and tissue donors. Our hope at Forest Hill Publishing is that our upcoming book will inspire many more people of color to become organ and tissue donors. To learn how you can participate in this project, click here.
