SEEKING
TRUE STORIES OF BUDDHIST PRACTICE IN THE SGI
Please email this notice to anyone who might be interested.
Hi,
I'm M. LaVora Perry--a Nichiren Buddhist (SGI-USA) for over 21 years. I'm looking for true stories (experiences) for 3 projects. Submissions must be written in the English language. Stories that have been published before are okay to send.
Project 1 features adult SGI Buddhists of African descent (Black Buddhists).
Project 2 features SGI Buddhists ages 13 to 18.
Project 3 features SGI Buddhists ages 5 to 12.
SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES
In order for your submission to be considered it MUST follow
these guidelines:
1.) Submission Deadline: Extended
2.) Word Count for Teen and Adult Submissions (ages 13 and up): 500 -
3,000.
3.) Word Count for Kid Submissions (ages 5 to 12): 200 - 2,000.
4.) You can send in as many stories as you want. But please stick to one
topic for each story. Don’t include a lot of different life
experiences in the
same write-up.
5.) I’m looking for all kinds of topics—nothing is off limits. Stories about how you first came to practice Buddhism are welcome. As I get submissions I may put out another request for specific story topics.
6.) Show how your Buddhist practice as a member of the SGI helped you
overcome a particular problem.
7.) Show how you grew or changed in a good way because you went through
what you went through.
8.) Please write the way you talk. Talking out loud while you write might
help you do this. Use the simplest words you can to say what you want to
say.
9.) Please don’t use Buddhist or SGI words or phrases that people who
aren’t Buddhist won’t understand. If you think you have to use a
Buddhist or SGI word or phrase, please explain what it means in your
write-up.
10.) Email all submissions to mlavoraperry AT yahoo.com with one of these
subject headers (please fix the email address by putting @ where it
belongs):
SGI Buddhist Submission--African Descent
SGI Buddhist Submission--Teen
SGI Buddhist Submission--Kid
